De gebroeders Gaudin zijn vanaf de vroege jaren 40 in de fotografie actief geweest. In 1858 brachten ze de serie ‘Hollande’ uit met in totaal 71 Nederlandse stereofoto’s van Amsterdam, Den Haag, Dordrecht, Haarlem en Rotterdam. Op de meeste in grijs uitgevoerde vlakke kaarten – met klein etiket aan de achterzijde – staat links verticaal de tekst ‘Hollande’ gedrukt. Verschillende foto’s zijn ook als ingekleurde stereofoto en als stereoglas­positief bekend. De serie is hoogwaardig afgewerkt. In 1861 is deze serie van 71 foto’s ook bij uitgeverij H. Plaut uitgebracht. De New York Stereoscopic Company (in 1859) en D. Appleton hebben in ieder geval enkele foto’s onder hun eigen naam uitgebracht. De serie is – anoniem – ook op vlakke gele kaarten uitgebracht.

The Gaudin brothers were active in the photography business from the early 1840s. In 1858 they issued a series called ‘Hollande’ with a total of 71 Dutch stereo views featuring Amsterdam, The Hague, Dordrecht, Harlem and Rotterdam. Most pictures are mounted on grey, flat cards, have a small label on the reverse and have the vertically printed text ‘Hollande’ on the front left side. Several pictures are also known to exist in tinted form and as stereo glass diapositives. The series has a high-quality finish. In 1860 or 1861 this series of 71 pictures is also published by H. Plaut.

The New York Stereoscopic Company (in 1859) and D. Appleton issued at least some of these views under their own name. The series has been published as well – anonymously - on yellow, flat cards.
